Q: What kind of service projects will we be participating in/ How many?
A: During the 1-week leadership training camp (June 28 - July 4) each participant will help to complete a personal total of 11 service projects and an accumulative total of 21 service projects during the course of the program. Projects will range from feeding the hungry and visiting the sick and the shut-in to renovating public facilities and building shelters. During the 2-week day camp (June 9 -23) participants will participate in an accumulative total of 50 service projects.
Q: When does it start/ How long will it last?
A: The Summer of Service is a three-week program beginning June 28 and ending July 23.
Q: Will we be having a Fourth of July celebration?
A: Yes. There will be a Fourth of July celebration as well as an award ceremony on the last day of the program.
Q: What should I bring with me?
A: If you plan to spend the night at the Stone Mountain Park Lakeside Campground you should bring enough changes of clothes and personal hygiene items for the number of nights you plan to stay along with a flashlight, sleeping bag, pillow, and a jacket (in case of rain). All participants must bring their signed registration forms on the first day of the program.
Q: Where will we be sleeping?
A: During the 1-week leadership training camp (June 28 - July 4) Participants will have the option of going home each evening or staying at the Stone Mountain Park Lakeside campground. During the 2-week day camp (July 9 - 23) participants will go home every evening.
Q: Where will we be eating?
A: Participants will be provided with more than adequate breakfasts lunches and dinners at various restaurants and locations throughout Atlanta.
Q: How many participants will attend?
A: During the 1-week leadership training camp (June 28 - July 4) we are excepting no more than 40 participants age fourteen through seventeen. During the 2-week day camp (July 9 - 23) we are excepting up to 200 participants of all ages. Reservations are made on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Q: What kind of supervision will there be/ What kind of immediate safety measures are in place?
A: All staff members will receive safety, First Aid and CPR training in case of an emergency. First-Aid kits will be on hand at all times. All projects will be supervised by at least one trained professional. There will be a minimum of 1 adult above the age of 18 for every 4 participants, and 1 adult above the age of 25 for every 10 participants.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Program registration for participants planning to attend both the 1-week leadership training camp (June 28 - July 4) and the 2-week day camp (July 9 - 23) costs $200. Registration for participants planning to only attend the 2-week day camp (July 9 - 23) costs $40.
